MEETING MINUTES

JOSHUA ACADEMY PTF MEMBERSHIP MEETING
AUGUST 3, 2006

5:30PM

CALL TO ORDER – Kimberly Redding, President

  • The meeting was called to order at 5:35pm .

WELCOME – Kimberly Redding, President

  • Parents welcomed to the first PTF Membership Meeting for the 2006-2007 school year. 
  • Meeting reminders will be placed in the children’s folders and printed on bright paper.
  • An overview of the PTF Handbook was provided.
  • Classroom Parent Partners were encouraged to maintain a relationship with the PTF.  Parent Partners will be called upon to assist with distribution of PTF materials.
  • Jada Robinson, PTF Vice President, summarized the new Parent Participation Point System.

MINUTES – Michelle L. Anderson, Secretary

  • The minutes were read from the PTF Board meeting held on Thursday, July 6, 2006 .  There were no corrections to the minutes. 
  • The minutes were accepted as read.

FINANCIAL REPORT – Cammie Harris, Treasurer

  • Copies of the Joshua Academy PTF 2006-2007 Budget were distributed to parents.  The totals are as follows:
    • Expenses
    • Gross Income 
    • Net Income 
  • Income revisions were discussed and accepted. 
    • Discussion determined that classes would receive books in lieu of cash.
    • A revised copy of the budget will be submitted at the September meeting.

BOARD UPDATES – Carolyn Blythe, Charter, and Kimberly Redding, Pre-School

  • Gospel Night is scheduled for September 29, 2006 . Parents were encouraged to attend and solicit community support.
  • Joshua Pre-K3 has 17 openings.
    • Enrollment packets have been sent to local churches within a 5-mile radius. 
    • Family referral incentives offered.
      • 1 week paid tuition, per enrollment

COMMITTEE REPORTS – Event Coordinators

  • Picnic – Althea Grant
    • Request will be made to Jennifer Dixon for Tyson Chicken.
    • RC Donated 40 cases of Coke to the International Islamic Center.  Parent, Stacy Dugans, will request donation on behalf of Joshua.
    • Althea’s husband has a contact at Pepsi.  Donations to be requested.
    • Parents were asked to donate time and food.  One pack of hot dogs is a good donation.
  • Fundraising / Box Tops – Nadia Wall
    • $5,000.00 goal established for the school year.
    • Collection Boxes to be placed at Joshua and Trinity sites.
    • Heavy Marketing for school year.
    • Parents encouraged to apply for Box Tops Visa, which will include 50 bonus Box Tops and 1% of each purchase in Box Tops.
  • Fundraising / Paragon – Kimberly Redding
    • Committee members needed. Signup sheets available.
    • Event date is October 2 – 20, 2006 .
    • Merchandise delivery will occur prior to Thanksgivings Day.
      • Cookie dough must be collected the day of delivery.  Space is limited for storage.
  • Holiday Bazaar – Jada Robinson
    • Items in process of being purchased for sale.
    • Suggestion made to shop online in bulk.  Many items available for less than a dollar.
    • Committee volunteers needed.
    • Event dates:
      • December 13–15, 2006 - Students allowed to preview items for purchase.
      • December 18-19, 2006 – Purchase dates.
    • Holiday gift bags considered providing an option to wrapping items.
  • Book Fairs – Karen Frields
    • Website available for preview – www.scholasticbookfairs.com
    • Scholastic to host in winter and spring.  Dates to be determined.
    • Events to be held at Joshua and Trinity sites.
    • Committee volunteers needed to assist in running the store.
    • School profit more valuable, if accepted in product/books for teachers.
      • A wish list will be requested.
  • Yard Sale – Kimberly Redding & Cammie Harris
    • Event to be held in late April.
    • Suggestion to rent booth space to ensure profit.
    • PTF to sell food and beverages during sale.
    • Sale to be held in lot near the play area.
  • Yearbooks – Cammie Harris
    • Positive comments made regarding the 2005-2006 yearbooks.
    • Parent Partners to take pictures throughout school year for yearbook.
      • Pictures to be submitted electronically or CD.
    • Committee volunteers needed.

OLD BUSINESS – Kimberly Redding, President

  • PTF Table at Registration

o       Membership

§Multiple parents have signed up to join the PTF during the registration drive.  As of  August 2, 2006, the PTF has collected $105.00 in membership fees.

§The membership drive will continue throughout the school year.

oUniform Sale

§As of August 2, 2006 , the uniform sale has generated $22.00 in income.

§Uniform Sale to continue during Orientation and the State of the School, which will occur on August 14, 2006 and August 17, 2006 , respectively.

NEW BUSINESS – Kimberly Redding, President

  • Fundraiser / Penny Drive

oPenny Drive to be held to raise money for the school.  Funds will contribute to purchase of classroom materials.

oCompetition, as incentive, discussed.

§Girls v. Boys

§Classes may compete against each other.

  • Orientation to be held at Joshua location on Thursday, August 10, 2006 .

oPre-School – 5-6pm

oState of the School – 6-7pm

o       Kindergarten – 2nd Grade – 7-8pm

  • Orientation to be held at Trinity location on Thursday, August 17, 2006

o       Times to be determined.
